As part of the ongoing Stamford Harbor Lighthouse restoration project, we’re proud to announce another exciting milestone — the upgrade of the lighthouse’s Aid to Navigation beacon.

The navigation beacon, a classic Tideland ML-300 light, has guided mariners safely into Stamford Harbor for decades. First introduced 1967, the ML-300 became renowned for its reliability and durability in marine environments. Its iconic Fresnel lens design amplified light intensity while using minimal power, making it a technological breakthrough in its time. Thanks to recent improvements to the solar power system, the Stamford Lighthouse navigation light is brighter and more energy-efficient than ever.

New Bulb and Charging System Installed on the Stamford Lighthouse

Improvements to the navigation system include:

  • Main Navigation Light Upgrade: The classic Tideland ML-300 navigation light was upgraded from a 12V 0.55 amp bulb to a brighter 12V 0.77 amp bulb, ensuring improved visibility for Stamford Harbor.
  • Solar Panel Upgrade: Installed a Renogy 100 Watt 12 Volt solar panel, boosting energy efficiency to keep the light shining year-round.
  • Charge Controller Upgrade: Replaced the old controller with a Victron Energy Blue Solar MPPT 100/50, enhancing system reliability and performance.

These upgrades greatly improve the power and efficiency of the navigation beacon, while preserving the Stamford lighthouse’s historical integrity and providing a brighter and safer Stamford Harbor.
